The pilgrim passport on the Luther Trail in Saxony serves as your personal companion and proof of the stages you have completed. Along the route, you will find several so‑called stamp stations at all 31 stops, often located in central places such as tourist information centres, visitor offices, churches, or castles. There, pilgrims can add at least one stamp per stop to their passport. The pilgrim passport can be requested by email. Some stamp stations also offer additional, lovingly arranged services on site and provide a handcrafted pilgrim cabinet with useful information for hikers.

Along the Luther Trail in Saxony, a total of 72 stamp locations invite you to record your personal pilgrimage visibly and to mark each stage with a stamp. The stamps can be collected in the official Pilgrim Passport of the German Luther Trail Society or in the brochure “Hiking on the Luther Trail in Saxony”. The stamp locations include numerous tourist information centres, among others in Eilenburg, Torgau, Wurzen, Colditz, Leisnig, Döbeln, Mittweida, Waldenburg, Glauchau, Zwickau and Crimmitschau. Stamps can also be collected in many castles, palaces, community centres and churches, such as St. Mary’s Cathedral in Zwickau, the Brüderkirche in Altenburg or the Town Church in Trebsen. In this way, stamping becomes a journey of discovery, and each imprint tells a part of your own path in the footsteps of the Reformation.

The idea of the pilgrim cabinets along the Luther Trail in Saxony originated in 2020 in Mittweida, where the first cabinet was built on the initiative of the state commissioner using funds for Open Churches. It provides a respectful place for the stamp of the stamping point, informational materials, and small tokens for pilgrims. Its shape is reminiscent of the tower of Mittweida’s town church, and it was crafted by a carpenter from the local pilgrim group.

With funding from the Hiking and Pilgrimage Academy, ten more pilgrim cabinets were created in 2024, built in the Diakonie Workshops “Lebensbrücke” Glauchau and distributed to selected stamping points along the Luther Trail in Saxony. Inside, you will find brochures, the stamp, as well as practical pilgrim supplies such as blister plasters, rain ponchos, or small snacks. The pilgrim cabinets therefore symbolise lived pilgrim hospitality and the growing community along the Luther Trail in Saxony.
