Near the "pottery town" of Kohren-Salis rises Saxony's best-preserved Romanesque fortification: Gnandstein Castle near Leipzig. The von Einsiedel family lived here from the 14th century until the end of the Second World War - without ever giving up the keys to the castle. Keep, battlements, battlements, shield wall, palas: the fortress high above the Wyhra is a dream come true for medieval enthusiasts. When climbing up to the keep or in the late Gothic chapel, guests can truly feel the spirit of ancient times. An old legend reinforces the medieval aura: a previously undiscovered treasure is said to be hidden in the castle grounds to this day. Treasures from seven centuries that have already been found can be admired in the exhibition at Gnandstein Castle.
With the Experience Castle Country" app guests can go on an interactive multimedia tour. In it, knight Heinrich Hildebrandt von Einsiedel provides fascinating insights into his family history and brings paintings to life with augmented reality.
