For long stretches, this hiking trail runs directly along the Mulde, past the Nimbschen monastery where Luther’s later wife, Katharina von Bora, lived for 14 years before she escaped. It continues through the village of Schaddel, where you can visit artists’ houses, and along forest and meadow paths through nature and bird protection areas. In the village of Schönbach, there is a mountain church to visit, followed by a forest path to Colditz. The Colditz castle is visible from afar. The Renaissance town hall and the St. Egidien town church complete the panorama. Here, reformers were also persecuted in the 16th century. In 1523, four Protestant pastors had to answer for their beliefs before the bishop in Merseburg. A cantorate created in 1540 developed into a cantor society in 1580.
