Colditz Homecoming Tower

Viewpoint/viewing tower
The observation tower was built in 1901 on the occasion of the first Colditz Heritage Festival, taking just 10 weeks to complete. It was originally 18.70 meters tall, but after the upper structure was damaged by a lightning strike, the tower was raised to 20 meters. The Heimatturm is open to visitors on weekends when the weather is nice—on Saturdays starting at 1:00 p.m. and on Sundays starting at 12:00 p.m. On days with clear visibility, the Fichtelberg in the Ore Mountains and the Monument to the Battle of the Nations in Leipzig can be seen. During opening hours, the operators offer hot and cold dishes, cakes, ice cream, and hot and cold beverages.
