This route leads along the path of the Schildbürger through forest and heathland, past historic burial mounds and a knight's estate to the over 1000-year-old cathedral city of Wurzen with its historic old town.

In Schildau, you walk in the footsteps of the legendary Schildbürger. Here you can find the Schildbürger Museum, a Schildbürger playground and fountain, but also the worthwhile Gneisenaumuseum, as the famous von Gneisenau came from this place. From Schildau, the path leads the hiker through the beautiful Dahlener Heide towards Wurzen. Between the villages of Frauwalde and Heyda are historic burial mounds still visible today. In Dornreichenbach, hikers can regain strength with a delicious ice cream. Upon arriving in Wurzen, the historic old town, the possibility to visit the cathedral, and a historically interesting city museum await the visitor. In the 16th century, the bishops of Meissen resided here, as evidenced by the still very well-preserved bishop's castle. In 1542, Luther endeavored to settle the "Wurzen Feud" and thereby helped prevent a war.

There, just at the entrance of the village, shortly after reaching Torgauer Straße, the path turns right. It continues past the Brückenteich towards Frauwalde. The village is crossed via the streets "Am Hang" and "Mittelweg", following the marked route, reaching the Dammmühlteich. Further along the Lossabach, the path leads towards Heyda. Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

The over 1000-year-old city of Wurzen is the birthplace of the painter and poet Joachim Ringelnatz. A visit to his birthplace and the museum, which houses the Ringelnatz collection, should therefore not be missed. Guided tours through the city, the cathedral, the museum, and the castle can be booked.
