The faithfully restored building of the former electoral chancellery has been home to an exhibition of historically valuable exhibits since 2005 and invites visitors to a special kind of encounter with the history and culture of Torgau.
The former farmstead of the Cistercian monastery became the property of the sovereign at the beginning of the 16th century. Elector Johann Friedrich established the chancellery here around 1533, laying the foundations for a modern Saxon administration and for the use of the Electoral Saxon chancery language in Central Germany.
