The region of the Saxon Uplands is known for its beautiful meadow floodplains and idyllic forest areas. The route begins at Gnandstein Castle, one of the best-preserved Romanesque castles in Saxony, and leads through the famous pottery town of Kohren-Sahlis along the Wyhra's meadow floodplains to the large district town of Borna.

As early as 1519, Borna was the first town in Ernestine Saxony where Protestant preaching took place. Here in Borna, Martin Luther wrote the famous Ash Wednesday letter on March 5, 1522, and preached four times in 1522 at St. Mary's Church. In front of the church is a special Luther monument created by the Burgdorf artist Hilko Schomerus and inaugurated in 2011. On Martin Luther Square today stands the Emmaus Church from Heuersdorf, which was relocated from Heuersdorf to Borna in October 2007 with a significant procession.

Directions

This stage of the Lutherweg starts in Gnandstein below the castle and then runs south to Wüstenhain via Rudigsburg to the pottery town Kohren-Sahlis. Afterwards, the path leads north again through a forest area along the Wyhra to the village of Streitwald, over the Abthäuser to Frohburg. In Frohburg, you follow the Wyhra to the castle pond and then walk along Brauhausgasse over the church square to August-Bebel-Straße. Then continue via Wiesenmühlweg and the motocross path, which leads out of Frohburg city to the north. Along the Wyhra again, you pass through Benndorf, Wyhra, Plateka, and Zedtlitz. These are already the first districts of the city of Borna. Through a allotment garden area, the path leads into Hausgasse, which leads into the city center. At Dinterplatz, the route turns into Reichsstraße and goes over the market and Kirchstraße to Martin Luther Square. From there it continues via Brühl to Pegauer Tor, then along Sachsenallee for a short distance and into Abtsdorfer Straße. This stage of the Lutherweg ends at Victoriaschacht.
