On little-trafficked roads and meadow paths, the "Lutherweg Sachsen" runs along the river "Pleiße" from the former residence town Altenburg to Borna. Not only the large cities are worth seeing. In the small villages along the way, you also encounter remarkable churches and historically valuable houses.

This route starts in Altenburg and passes the Windischleuba reservoir. At the Pahna lake campsite, the Thuringian Lutherweg meets its Saxon counterpart. Through dense forests, it approaches the town of Whyra. The path continues via Zedtlitz, along the Whyra floodplain, into the city center of Borna.

Altenburg holds special significance for the Reformation. It was not only one of the most important residences of the Saxon electors but is also connected with the name Georg Spalatin, who was the closest confidant, secretary, and confessor of Elector Frederick the Wise. As Luther's confidant, Spalatin was for years an important mediator between Luther and the elector.

Directions

From the large pond in Altenburg, the route goes over the Teichvorstadt, the Berggasse, and the Jungferngasse to a roundabout. Here the Lutherweg turns into the castle park, crosses it, and then continues on Hausweg. Follow Hausweg to Beethovenstraße, from which you turn into Poschwitzer Straße. At the Weißer Berg, you cross the tracks and follow the marked path further west through Poschwitz and Remsa. Over meadow paths parallel to Chauseestraße, it leads to Windischleuba. Behind Windischleuba, you cross the river "Pleiße" on Rochlitzer Straße and then go north, past the reservoir, through the town of Pänitz. Then follow the marked path through a forest area. Einsiedelweg leads through another forest section to Thränaer Straße. Cross this and follow the marked path past Wyhra northward through Plateka to Zedtlitz, which are already districts of the city Borna. From Zedtlitz, the path goes through the Whyra floodplain, past two small lakes, through a garden allotment area towards the city center. Via Hausgasse, you reach Dinterplatz, Kirchgasse, and Abtdorfer Straße, where this stage ends.
