This particularly scenic route begins with the descent from Kriebstein Castle. The Zschopau River is crossed over a suspension bridge, and for long stretches you walk on forest paths or along the river through the Saxon Castle Country.

The path leads over forest paths, along the river, and over small village streets. On this hike you can enjoy, besides historic half-timbered buildings such as the Lochmühle, the view over the Kriebstein reservoir. You walk along the bank of the Zschopau River until you come to the ruins of a robber castle in Ringethal. The route passes through small villages until it reaches the town of Mittweida. Even in 1535, 73 Protestant citizens had to leave the town there. Only from 1537, through Duchess Elisabeth of Saxony, was the Reformation introduced here as well.

Directions

The path begins at Kriebstein Castle with a descent southwards, where you cross the river and then continue on forest paths heading south, always following the route marked with a green "L" on a white background. After a longer forest section, the path meets the Waldheimer Straße, which you leave heading south and continue further south until you reach Lochmühlenstraße. You follow this to the Lochmühle. From here, the path winds further along the river, past the Kriebstein reservoir, the villages Weilberg and Falkenhain, and Ringethal. Below the village of Ringethal, a bridge crosses the river on Weinberger Straße. From there, the path follows the other bank of the river. Through Mittweida's city park, the path leads into the town center, along Waldheimer Straße, past the market, and ends at Kirchberg at the town church.
