For long stretches, the path runs along the river "Freiberger Mulde" through the Eichgrund and the beautiful landscape of the Saxon Castle Land. From the start at Mildenstein Castle in Leisnig, past the 12th-century Cistercian monastery "Buch", to the idyllic city of Döbeln, which is over 1,000 years old, this stage impresses as a great hiking experience.

From the town of Leisnig, the path leads through the Eichgrund along the river "Freiberger Mulde" to Buch Monastery. The Cistercian monastery from the year 1192 is worth a detour. From the former monastery complex, the chapter house and the abbot's house, the infirmary, and the sick chapel are still preserved. The route runs along forest, meadow, and village roads. Behind Westewitz, the Luther Trail crosses the Mulde. It continues on the Mulde cycle path always along the river. During Luther's lifetime, Duke George the Bearded ruled here, a vehement enemy of the Reformer. It was only after the duke's death in 1539 that the Reformation was able to spread in Albertine Saxony. Nevertheless, the first Protestant sermon in Döbeln already took place in 1521, but not in the church, rather in the town hall.

Directions

The route begins in Leisnig behind the bridge at Schlossberg. From there, it goes up to the castle and then eastwards out of the town via Bahnhofstraße. First, you follow the Freiberger Mulde and then head southwards along the Wallbach. From there, it continues on the Mulde Valley hiking trail. Buch Monastery is located on the other side of the river, but the detour is not far and worth it. Back on the Luther Trail, you cross the Freiberger Mulde before Westerwitz and then follow the northern bank. Through the village of Techwitz, past monastery gardens, you reach Döbeln via Großbauchlitz. In Döbeln, the route continues always along the river. At the roundabout, you cross the river and follow the route marked with a green "L" on a white background towards the town center. The stage ends at Obermarkt.
