Neukieritzsch

In the town of Neukieritzsch, located in the southern part of Leipzig’s Neuseenland region, there is plenty to discover and experience. Colorful vacation homes and apartments line the promenade along the Kahnsdorf Lagoon on Lake Hainer. In addition to the local sailing school and a boat rental service, more shops and tourist attractions are springing up to enhance the maritime lifestyle on the lake. In the town center stands the Rittergut, a former manor house converted into an idyllic café that was once visited by Friedrich Schiller.

Another notable figure associated with Neukieritzsch is Katharina von Bora. She went down in history as the wife of Martin Luther. Commemorative plaques honoring her are displayed in the village church in Kieritzsch. The municipality of Neukieritzsch lies along the Luther Trail, the Pleiße Cycle Path, and the “Via Imperii” pilgrimage trail. Anyone interested in seeing the active open-pit mine can do so from the lookout point in the Deutzen district.
